Davis C. Hemingway Biography

Davis was born on January 3,1987.  He was raised in Newport, NH and attended area schools.  He played every sport that was offered in the town though youth programs, school athletics, and private clubs. He was an excellent athlete, with a lot of natural abilities. He worked hard everyday to better himself.  Davis was one of a few male athletes from Newport who received his varsity letter in three sports when he was a freshman.  He was the quarterback for the football team, the point guard for the basketball team and the catcher for the baseball team.  Davis’ dream was to play Division One football in college.  While a freshman at Newport Middle High School he felt the need to attend a high school in class L in New Hampshire. This would provide the opportunity to play at a more competitive level; thus, bettering his chances of Division One acceptance. After his freshman year he moved to Keene, NH. He attended Keene High School for his sophomore year. During this year he again established himself as a varsity player in football, basketball and baseball.

On July 13, 2003 Davis, at the age of 16, was jumping off high rocks at a local swimming spot in Vermont.  This was something many youth have done across the country.  The Twin Falls swimming area on the Saxton’s River is an attractive site with rocks 30 feet high and water depth of approximately 40 feet.  Davis and a group of friends went to Twin Falls that July day with the intention of having a swim before a baseball game.  After Davis’ final jump, he never emerged from the swirling waters below.  His body lay motionless beneath the swirling waters, trapped under disguised ledges.  This one moment stole a piece of many hearts.
